This section is dedicated to research/information I have collected and put together regarding various topics such as store-bought food, caging, bedding, culling, and tumors. There is so much misinformation and under-education flowing through the internet, that I want to pull my hair out (just kidding... I like my hair)! Please read, and be your own best judge of what is best for your furry little friends.
To elaborate, the purpose of me creating this learning and research section with subsections/topics is to provide you with evidence based, peer reviewed research to help you make the best possible decisions for your furry friends, to see why I recommend some of the things that I do, and to provide reliable, trustworthy information that is not simply hearsay or bias. My biggest pet peeve in not only the rat community and other breeders, but people in general, is when opinion based, subjective, biased information is provided to the public (in this case, potential adopters) and referred to/regarded as factual information, when it is not. Most of the time, it is unfounded opinions and nothing more. If experiments have been conducted or research cited, then that is reliable information to learn from.
I wish breeders would stop providing false information to people genuinely interested in learning about rats, how to *properly* care for rats, and rats *actual* requirements. I wish breeders (anyone, really) would stop quoting percentages that do not exist, stop giving advice that is false or incorrect, and stop pushing personal beliefs on others without evidence to back up claims. If actual research is cited that's great, otherwise, it is merely an opinion and should be stated as such.
Thus, welcome to my research section - a constant and ongoing work in progress to help provide beneficial and trustworthy information with cited/peer reviewed/evidence based research articles to any one interested in learning about our rat friends - Enjoy!
