Policies
Adoption policies are as follows:
- ECOR is completely closed. This is not only because of the Seoul virus, but because of the other many viruses that are extremely contagious to pet rats, such as Sendai, SDAV, rat parvoviruses, etc.
- No visiting "the rat room." This is to keep my rats free of all viruses and other pathogens that a person entering may bring on their clothes from contact with another rats or from visiting a pet store.
- I will refund your money up to ONE MONTH POST ADOPTION with proof of reason in the form of veterinary evaluation/results or proof of family/personal emergency.
Adoption Procedure
- If this APPLICATION is CLOSED, that means there are no rats currently available and no pregnant females or litters at this time.
- There is no wait list, but do expect to wait for rats to be available - remember; we are a hobby rattery and are not always breeding. Sometimes, I go months in between litters.
•Reservations are for those with completed and approved adoption applications on babies as posted on my Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/eastcoastrattery
•Reservations will ONLY be made through our East Coast Rattery Facebook page as posted.
•Available babies/adults will RARELY be posted on our website but -ALWAYS on FACEBOOK- - Regarding availability FOR THOSE WITH ALREADY APPROVED APPLICATIONS O N L Y:
- On Facebook, I will be posting pictures of each litter as soon as they're born including of parents, then again when babies' fur starts coming in, and again when eyes open. As soon as I post the first picture set of when a litter is born, if you think you'll be interested, send me a message. Then, when you see the second set of photos (when fur comes in) if you see a pair you're interested in based on pattern or coat/ear type, send me their ID info (usually a name or number). I will also ask you pick 2 for back up in case I decide to keep any you choose (I don't choose my own keepers until they're at least 3, sometimes 4 weeks depending on development) or should any health or temperament issue arise (rare, but always have to be prepared so I can offer the best possible).
- In short, definitely keep an eye out on my Facebook page and send follow-up messages often!
Honestly, I still haven't figured out the best way to do adoptions... babies go FAST, so usually when I post first pics, within a day, they're all already claimed . Well, people who are approved and then message me saying they DEFINITELY want 2 girls or 3 boys etc. So then I make note of who said that first, and when second sets of pictures are posted, I wait until people message me about which 2 they want with their 2 backup options, OR if I remember, I'll message them to follow up (which I don't always remember since I get flooded with messages). When I choose my keepers, I'll message each person to let them know which 2 they got from their choices, and ask for a deposit within 48 hours. This can take place anytime between when babies are 3 to 5 weeks.
I always welcome questions, comments, and updates to your living situation/application in the mean time! When litters are posted, I very much welcome all questions on it and am more than happy to share all information on them in terms of breeding goals, overall temperament, health or health issues possibly prone to, general age of death, etc etc.
•To secure your reservation of your 2+ rats (knowing your backup pair), a deposit will be required through Paypal within 12 hours of your first message to hold the rats - if the deposit is not received within 12 hours, the second person who is interested will get the opportunity to put down a deposit within 12 hours.
•I will meet an adopter up to 15 minutes away for free. For anything further, I charge reimbursement at current cost of gas, there and back, plus any tolls, plus $10 convenience fee. I will drive up to one hour one way.
•If you have any questions about your application status, please message me through the rattery Facebook page. *I DO NOT CHECK EMAILS OFTEN*
